Today, we’re talking with Erikas Mikusauskas, who successfully completed the Cybersecurity and IT Systems course at CodeAcademy and secured a job at IDenfy while still studying. IDenfy is a modern company that provides advanced identity verification and security solutions, helping businesses prevent fraud and create a safer environment for their customers.

Erikas’ transition into cybersecurity is an inspiring example of how determination, persistence, and motivation can open doors to a new and promising career path.
What was your work experience before studying at CodeAcademy?
I had no prior experience in cybersecurity—this field was completely new to me.
Why did you choose to study at CodeAcademy?
After completing my military service, I was looking for ways to redirect my career. I decided to focus on cybersecurity and started searching for high-quality training programs. I wanted a structured course that would allow me to study flexibly while gaining the essential skills to stand out in the job market. When I came across a course that aligned with my interests, I knew it was the right choice—and that’s where my cybersecurity journey began.
How did you stay motivated during challenging moments—both while studying and job hunting?
I usually find it hard to stay focused on studying, but this course was a pleasant surprise—the topics were truly engaging, and the instructors were always supportive. They made sure we weren’t just learning theory, but also working on hands-on practical tasks, which kept me motivated throughout the course.
What did you do to land your first job?
I started job hunting while I was still studying, knowing that by the time I completed the course, many others would also be applying for similar positions. I wanted to get ahead of the competition, showcase my skills, and increase my chances of success. Fortunately, I managed to secure a job before even finishing my studies. During interviews, I made sure to highlight my strengths, skills, motivation, and my commitment to continuous learning.
One of the key factors that helped me stand out was having something tangible to show employers. In my case, I wrote a vulnerability assessment report, applying my analytical skills and knowledge of risk management and mitigation.
What advice would you give to those looking to switch careers?
The best advice I can give is don’t give up. Sometimes, you have to take one step back to move two steps forward. It can feel intimidating and uncomfortable, but the more time you spend outside your comfort zone, the easier it becomes.
Also, make an effort to attend industry events and network with other professionals. This can help you build valuable connections, and in some cases, those connections might remember you when job opportunities arise, giving you a competitive edge during interviews.
